The Jewish community of Gibraltar celebrated Jerusalem Day (Yom Yerushalayim) commemorating the re-unification of East and West Jerusalem. This year was a special celebration as it marked the 50th Anniversary of the re-unification of the city in the 1967 Six Day War, in which the Israeli Defence Forces brought the Temple Mount and the Western Wall (the most sacred place for the Jewish religion), back to Israeli control. As part of the celebrations, the Gibraltar-Israel Chamber of Commerce (Gibrael) along with the Israeli Honorary Consul, Mr. David Benaim, organised a gala dinner. The dinner was attended by the Deputy Israeli Ambassador from London, Mrs Sharon Bar-Li who came on her first ever visit to Gibraltar. The Chief Minister, Governor’s wife Lorraine Davis and members of the Jewish community enjoyed a wonderful dinner and commemorative songs at the Sunborn Yacht Hotel.
